Programs | In the Making: 250 Years/250 Artists

In 2008, Fe Arts Gallery hosted In the Making, a first-of-its-kind visual exhibition celebrating the 250th anniversary of Pittsburgh by showcasing artwork by 250 local artists in a salon-style exhibit that garnered high praise from art critics, participating artists, and other members of the arts community.

To amplify the impact of this historic exhibition, Fe Arts Gallery created a museum-quality, full-color catalogue that documented the exhibition and the participating regional artists. Distributed to 1,000 galleries and museums across the country, this publication dramatically increased the national exposure of both the gallery and the 250 artists who participated.

The exhibition ran from September 12, 2008 through January 10, 2009, including works from each of the 14 counties in Southwestern Pennsylvania, and featuring artists from both rural and urban communities. The exhibit promoted cross-pollination among the region’s artists and gave exposure to underrepresented artists. This high profile exhibition also attracted and familiarized a record number of new visitors from all 14 counties with the burgeoning arts scene in Lawrenceville.
