Fe Gallery

Fe Arts Gallery presented it’s first exhibition five years ago in August, 2003. Since then, hundreds of area artists as well as dozens of international artists have participated in more than thirty exhibitions. We are driven to work collaboratively with non-arts organizations to present thought provoking exhibitions, addressing under-served populations. We are committed to creating out-reach programs that use art as a means to provide a forum for discussion and understanding.

We have hosted symposiums, poetry readings, performance art, musical events, artists’ talks, workshops and youth classes. As reflected in our mission statement, Fe Arts Gallery continues to present exhibitions that directly reflect societal issues and partnering with health and human service organizations, including: Pennsylvania Blind Services, Habitat for Humanity, Allegheny County’s Mental Health Mental Retardation Center (MH/MR), Society for Suicide Prevention and America’s Camp- an organization dedicated to the children who lost a parent in the 9/11 attacks.

Over the years, Fe gallery has built a track record for presenting challenging, well-crafted, intelligent artwork to the public. The gallery has gained a national reputation that has increased Pittsburgh’s exposure as a thrilling art community. Among our major accomplishments, we have received critical acclaim in local and national periodicals in over 45 articles.

In 2008, Fe Arts Gallery produced In the Making: 250 Years/250 Artists, a first-of-its-kind visual exhibition of artwork by 250 artists from Southwestern Pennsylvania to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Pittsburgh. To amplify the impact of this historic exhibition, Fe Arts Gallery created a museum-quality, full-color catalogue that documents the exhibition and the participating regional artists. This catalogue serves as an actual catalogue of Pittsburgh art, resource for galleries, museums and collectors to access the extraordinary creativity from the region, sent to 1,000 galleries and art spaces across the country.

We are a volunteer driven organization run on a shoestring budget, reusing nails and recycling wire. Since its inception, Jill Larson, the founder has operated as the curator and director on a volunteer capacity. Fe Arts Gallery’s board of directors mirrors the high-regard the community has for our small budget/big ambitious projects, non-profit organization. Our advisory board, which works closely with Larson, consists of Barbara Luderowski, the director and the founder of the Mattress Factory; Michael Olijnyk, the creative director and curator of exhibitions of the Mattress Factory; Charlie Humphrey, the director of Pittsburgh Filmmakers and Pittsburgh Center for the Arts; and Janet McCall, director of Society for Contemporary Art. Fe’s board of directors consists of 7 dedicated hard working individuals.
